Enjoy the garden in your roof!
Hello Uganda! Another beautiful day, another reminder of how nature plays such an important role in our lives here.
Today, we will talk about creative and simple ways our buildings can interact with this abundant resource: nature.
Did you know that, compared to much of the world, our quality of life can increase exponentially when we build using the natural environment.
Also, we will learn a new bonus definition: Biophilic Design!
Imagine you have an empty plot with trees, and you desire to construct a building in your plot. It means you have to cut some of the trees or wipe out the green areas in your plot. Don’t you think you need to tolerate the number of green areas and trees you lost after the construction. Well, a “Green Roof” is the best solution to bring that green nature back!
Green roof is a roof which is covered with vegetation, grass, trees etc. That type of roof combines the soil well with the concrete slabs. However, having pots on the roof is not counted as a green roof.
Although, we have the best suitable environment to create the green roofs in Uganda, unfortunately there is no building which has green roofs as far as we know.
What are the benefits of a green roof?
It reduces the outside noise,
It helps run-off reduction,
It reduces heat island around the building,
It keeps the air clean.
Green roofs are a feature in Biophilic Design.
What is biophilic design:
An architectural design approach that aims to increase our connection with nature, promoting well-being and productivity.
That’s all for today, brothers and sisters. We would like to wish everybody in Uganda a prosperous connection with nature.
