Ahh these sidewalks in Kampala..
Today, we will mention about the major problem in Uganda.
Hopefully, it will be effective post to be heard by local authorities. So that we will have a better city life all together.
A sidewalk is a pathway alongside a road for pedestrians: and many of us commute this way by the dozens, even hundreds!
In spite of this, have you noticed that many businesses, in a rush to focus on their daily duties, obstruct the sidewalk! Pedestrians, then, must stop and walk around shop advertisements, construction materials, individual wishes and those “just one minute, boss” tasks that end up causing a jam.
These are just examples, but let’s define the “sidewalk obstruction” properly:
“Any object which blocks pedestrian passage on a sidewalk” is called sidewalk obstruction.
How many of us have had to wait in traffic because someone leaves their iron sheets on the sidewalk for a construction project?
We must stop and ask a simple question: Do businesses have the right to obstruct sidewalks?
After all, sidewalks are public property. Businesses don’t pay rent to use them, but they use those areas anyhow!
As another example, what if an elder person in your family dies on the road because of sidewalk obstruction?
Please, let us have empathy for each other. We are all living in this community.
The city spaces must be used as designed: for all of us to commute safely.
